I Couldn’t Hold Her Feelings, or Mine. Here’s What Changed.
Masculine and feminine energy in relationships, in plain words: how a steady man creates safety, and how strong women find rest.

Picture yourself on a cold street at night, standing outside a restaurant with big front windows. Inside, the light is warm. People are laughing. Someone leans back in her chair like she has nowhere else to be. You are not sure how they got in there, and you are not sure you would know what to order. You just know you want to be inside.
That is how a lot of people feel when they hear talk about masculine and feminine energy in relationships. It sounds lovely. It also sounds like something for other people. This post is not here to drag you through the door. I just want to show you what is inside, as plainly as I can, from what I have seen in my own life and in years of sitting in circles with women and men who are building their work out of their own healing.
What Happens When a Man Is Calm and Steady?
Not long ago this came up on our Monday Serafina community call. At one point I asked the women in the group a simple question. When a man is clear, steady, and not reactive, what happens in you?
The answers came fast, and they were almost the same answer said different ways. My body relaxes. Something in me says, this is a comfortable space. I get curious. I want to play.
I want you to notice what they did not say. Nobody said, I feel impressed. Nobody said, I feel protected from danger. They said they could finally stop scanning the room. When you describe it in nervous system language, it is really just a way of naming how safety feels in the body. The shoulders drop. The breath goes lower. The part of you that has been on guard for years gets to sit down.
That, in my experience, is the practical heart of all this. A steady man changes the room. Not with a speech. Not with a plan he announces at dinner. He changes it by how he is.
How Does a Man Create Safety for the Feminine?
Here is how I understand the man's work, and I offer it as my belief and my experience. His job is to hold more of life. The decisions. The structure. The responsibility. Holding it means he carries it so she does not have to carry all of it, and so she can rest in feeling, in creativity, and in pleasure.

Let me be clear about what I mean. I do not mean he decides for her. I do not mean she stops thinking. I mean he picks the restaurant when she is tired of picking. He notices the bills before they become a crisis. He keeps his word when he says he will be home at six. He stays calm when the plan falls apart, so that the plan falling apart does not also become an emotional emergency.
And he does it by example, not by force. This part matters more than any other. A man who reads one book and comes home to tell his partner, I am stepping into my masculine now, you can relax, has just handed her one more thing to manage. Now she has to watch his transformation and grade it. She did not ask for a project.
The man who actually creates safety does not need to announce anything. He just gets steadier. Week after week. She notices on her own, usually long before he would have thought to say it. Her body notices first.
I learned this the slow way. When I was young, I saw a lot of men show up in ways that hurt women. I grew up around generations of very hurt, very angry women, inside and outside of my family. Somewhere in there I decided the masculine itself was the problem. So I was not at ease with my masculine side, and I was not at ease with my feminine side either. I could not sit fully in either one, and after my parents divorced at a young age, I had no daily picture of a healthy man, despite my father driving hours every other weekend to see me.
Part of that was lineage. My father is a great man in many ways. His own father was killed when he was a baby, so much of what a father passes to a son, he had to learn on his own too. I have only gratitude and compassion for him. My mother's father was an orphan who rode the orphan trains in the early 1900s. He carried a lot of pain and shame from growing up with no steady man to follow. For generations, the map was missing.
So I was not a healthy man in a lot of ways. When a woman I loved felt something big, I took it personally. I got defensive. I lived in my own feelings more than served us, when what she needed was a steady, deep heart that could honor the size of what she felt. In my experience, a woman's feelings often run bigger than a man's and move with rhythms in her body I will never live through myself. I could not hold that, so she could not feel safe to feel all of it with me.
I am deeply grateful to the women in my life who helped me grow here, and to the great men who showed me what I had not been shown. I share this so your path has less pain in it than mine did, and more celebration. Your life is not mine, and the question worth asking is what this looks like in yours.
What Does the Chalice Teach Us About Feminine and Masculine Polarity?
There is an old image I keep coming back to. A chalice. The cup is the masculine. It has shape, edges, and a base that stays put. The water is the feminine. It moves, it fills, it takes the shape of whatever holds it, and it is the thing that actually quenches your thirst.

You need both to have the drink. A cup with no water is just an empty object on a shelf. Water with no cup spills across the table and soaks into the wood. Neither one is better. Neither one is the point without the other.
This is what people mean, in my view, when they talk about feminine and masculine polarity. Two different kinds of strength, in relationship. The cup is not more important because it is solid. The water is not weaker because it moves. Every person carries some of both. A woman has a cup inside her. A man has water inside him. The question is which one gets to lead in a given moment, and whether the other one can trust it.
Why Do Ambitious Women Live in Masculine Energy?
Now let me talk to the woman reading this who is thinking, that all sounds nice, but I have been the cup my whole life.

Many ambitious, high performing women live in masculine energy most of the day, and there are good reasons for it. Your work trained you there. Running a business, leading a team, building a practice from nothing, all of that rewards planning, pushing, deciding, and controlling outcomes. Your history may have trained you there too. If the people around you were not steady, you learned early that if you did not hold it, nobody would.
So you became very good at holding it. And it worked. It built the career. It paid the bills. It kept everyone safe.
Here is the part nobody puts on the vision board. It is exhausting. Wearing that mask all day, the competent one, the one who has it handled, wears on you. You come home and there is no off switch. Even rest feels like a task you have to do correctly. And underneath it is a quiet question a lot of women have asked me some version of. Where do I get to rest? I mean the inner kind, the kind sleep does not fix.
Picture a woman who has always been the one in charge. At work, at home, with her friends, in every crisis. Everyone calls her. She has never once felt safe enough to put it down, because the one time she tried, things fell apart and she had to pick them up again, plus the mess. Her strength is real. Her tiredness is also real.
How Do You Move From Distorted Feminine to Divine Feminine?
I want to start with plain words before any spiritual ones, because words like divine can feel far away when you are still not sure how you feel about your own femininity. So here is the plain version. Moving from distorted to divine feminine means letting yourself be held a little more, and holding everything a little less.
It does not mean you give up your ambition. You do not have to quit your company, lower your prices, or pretend you do not know how to read a spreadsheet. Your strengths stay. What changes is what you add to them. Allowance. Softness. Safety. The ability to receive help without first proving you did not need it.
The distortion, as I see it, is the belief that strength is the only thing keeping her alive. The divine part shows up when she discovers she can be strong and also be held, and that the world does not end when she lets someone else carry the bags for a while.
If you are asking how to embody divine feminine energy, I would offer you something smaller than you expect. Notice one moment today where you would normally take control and let it go. Let someone else choose the movie. Let the silence sit without filling it. Say yes when someone offers to help. Then notice your body afterward. That noticing is the practice.
Why Do Small Steps Beat Big Leaps?
Meet yourself where you are. I say this to the men and women I work with, and I say it to myself.

Consider a woman who grew up surrounded by brothers. She learned to lower her voice so she would be taken seriously. She learned to be the cool girl, the one who did not need anything, who laughed off what hurt. She is not failing at femininity. She adapted. She did exactly what a smart kid does in the room she was given. That adaptation kept her safe, and it deserves some respect before anyone asks her to change it.
When someone feels judged, they leave. They leave the conversation, the relationship, the group, sometimes their own growth. So big leaps rarely work. A woman who has lived in her head for thirty years is not going to dance barefoot in a field next Tuesday, and she should not have to. One softer breath. One accepted offer. One evening where she lets her partner make the plan. Small steps hold. Big leaps tend to snap back.
The same goes for men. A man who has spent years either passive or controlling will not become a calm, steady presence by Friday. He gets there one kept promise at a time.
Are Men and Women on the Same Side?
I want to say this clearly, because a lot of talk about masculine and feminine turns into a fight about whose fault things are. The wounds around the feminine and the masculine are shared. Men were hurt by the same old stories that hurt women. Plenty of men were never shown what steadiness looks like. Plenty of women were punished for softness. None of us invented this.

Healthy men and healthy women are on the same side. The work is to build something together that neither could build alone, the cup and the water again.
If you are in a relationship that is stuck in real conflict, or you ever feel unsafe, please reach out to a qualified counselor or practitioner. Asking for help takes real strength.
Where Do You Go From Here?
Remember that restaurant with the big windows. I am not going to stand on the sidewalk and try to talk you inside. You can see what is in there now. Some steadiness. Some rest. Two people who are not keeping score.

If you want company while you find your way in, here are a few doors. Every Monday at 9am Central we hold The Gathering, a live call where people talk honestly about this kind of thing. You can join it through Serafina, and you are welcome to just listen.
Serafina also gives you a short morning and evening ritual, a daily way to notice where you are holding too much and where you can soften. It is a quiet companion for the small steps.
And at the end of March, we are gathering in person at AUREA IV: The Next Renaissance, March 26 to 28, 2027, in Elgin, Texas. Three days in a room full of people doing this work for real.
No pressure on any of it. The door is there whenever you are ready.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is masculine and feminine energy in relationships?
It is a way of describing two kinds of strength that people bring to each other. In my experience, the masculine holds structure and steadiness, and the feminine brings feeling, creativity, and life. Everyone carries both, and a relationship works best when each can trust the other.
How does a man create safety for the feminine?
He stays clear, steady, and calm, and he holds more of the decisions and responsibility so she does not have to carry everything. He does it by example, over time, without announcing it. She feels the change in her body before anyone says a word.
Why do ambitious women live in masculine energy?
Their work rewards planning, pushing, and control, and many learned early that if they did not hold things, nobody would. That strength is real and it worked. The cost is often a deep tiredness and no place to rest.
How do I start to embody divine feminine energy?
Start small. Pick one moment today where you would normally take control, let it go, and notice how your body feels afterward. You keep your ambition and add softness and the ability to receive.
